New BuildAbout this home

With a strong desire to preserve the mature trees on site, the clients engaged Etica Studio for design support—though this was very much a client-led project from the beginning. The client not only drove the design vision but also took an incredibly hands-on approach throughout, personally sourcing nearly every finish from different suppliers, often spending weekends combing through stores to find the perfect details.

From day one, it was clear that retaining the existing trees at the front of the block was non-negotiable. In response, the garage was built as a lightweight structure to protect the tree roots, and the front bedroom was thoughtfully positioned to look directly into the canopy, creating a strong visual connection with nature.

Having had a difficult experience with a previous builder, the client prioritised a deeply collaborative process—working closely with the team to reduce costs and avoid long-term risks without compromising on design intent. Built on a sloping block, the home also cleverly uses the pool as part of the retaining solution, integrating it seamlessly into the site.

The layout was carefully planned to support family life, with a clear separation between the children’s wing and a central living and kitchen hub designed to bring everyone together. Every part of this home is deeply personal, and no two areas are the same—each space carries its own unique story, making this a rare and thoughtful build in every sense.
